Life Coaching helps us to achieve our goals in life, big and small, longer-term goals and daily tasks.
One goal setting technique that I particularly like is The Path up the Mountain. I like this technique because it's very visually pleasing. On a piece of paper you draw your mountain. The bottom of the mountain is Base Camp and the top of the mountain is Your Goal. Between Base Camp and Your Goal are a series of other camps, Camp One, Camp Two, Camp Three and so on, as many as you need to divide up Your Goal into bitesized pieces, smaller tasks that are more manageable and achievable and that will help you on your way to the summit. Once you have developed your overall plan to ascend the mountain, to achieve Your Goal, there are a couple of key points to remember. Firstly, keep your focus on the next camp in your journey and not the summit. It is okay to remind yourself of your overall goal from time to time, but don't focus too much on the big picture; it can be overwhelming and slow your progress. So, if you are at Base Camp, focus on Camp One. Secondly, celebrate your achievement and progress as you reach each camp along the way. For example, when you reach Camp Three, look back down the mountain to where you've come from and consider how much you've already achieved. Find some way to acknowledge and celebrate this success, before turning your gaze to higher up the mountain to the next camp. In this way, you will find the strength and joy to keep going, all the way to the top of the mountain to achieve Your Goal.
